I had read many reviews on Millions Now Living Will Never Die before purchase and realized that Tortoise were darlings of the critics. As a bit of a fan of what has now generally been termed 'post rock' I was curious to see what all the fuss was about. MNLWND lived up /5(27).

Millions Now Living Will Never Die is the second full-length offering from Tortoise. The majority of the material was first conceived during an idyllic day retreat in Northern Vermont, where the group were able to explore their ideas in a setting that fostered introspection and inspiration: the results are clearly evident in the washes of Klangfärben (tone color) and rhythm that permeate the album.

Tortoise's production expertise hit an early peak with Millions Now Living Will Never Die, a work that not only references studio-centric forms like dub and electronica, but actively welds them to the group's aesthetic of sturdily constructed indie pheledachugadendenaducnodaham.xyzinfo centerpiece is the minute opener "Djed," a multi-part track which brought Tortoise's already impressive compositional abilities to a 10/

Nov 13,  · Vinyl appears identical (same matrix) as Tortoise - Millions Now Living Will Never Die, too. It does not appear to be reissue of Tortoise - Millions Now Living Will Never Die, because my version is black vinyl, without bar code, and with the school of fish curving from the top to the bottom/5(1K).

Conceptually, the album broadened Tortoise's universe to include the influences of electronica, prog rock, contemporary composers like Steve Reich, the spaghetti western soundtracks of Ennio Morricone, and more. Along the way, Millions became a watershed record not only for Tortoise and post-rock but for the entire '90s indie rock scene as well.

that being said, i am almost disappointed by this album. it has its moments, but seems to be mostly just noodling, meandering, just in-between time until some sort of groove takes shape. i had heard "glass museum" purely by chance on a friend's mix cd, only to discover that it was Tortoise upon hearing them play it live! this song is definitely 4/5(41).
